About Us

Where it all began…

Director and Owner of Community 3SIX5 Michael Eklom, has personal experience, in the effects of disability at both a personal and familial level. These experiences lead to the development of Community 3SIX5.

At age 61, Bruce Eklom, Michael’s father, was left a quadriplegic after a motorbike accident whilst on tour as part of the Vietnam Veterans Motor Cycle Club in the United States. This life-changing event highlighted the importance of care that not only has the person at the centre of support but also extends to the broader family.

With a BA in Psychology and 15 years’ experience working across sectors including mental health, homelessness and both physical and intellectual disability, Michael understands that ‘an individual's disability will never define the person’.

Learning to adapt

Meet Bruce Eklom, a Vietnam Veteran, a family man, a bloke who has always looked after himself, until a collision with fate turned his world upside down.

In 2008, the 61 year old was on a dream motorbike trip across the United States when disaster struck.

‘It’s a chance in a million what happened to me, I’ve fallen off bikes millions of times,’ he said.

‘You can crawl in a hole or get out and fight.’
